Why do people have alternative treatments?

Often we know when we are not feeling right, sometimes we know why other times we can’t put our finger on it. We may have been to see our GP but the problems persist.  In such cases we might consider seeking an alternative treatment.

Healing treatments are unique in that they can correct imbalances in our bodies as they arise rather than when we become aware of the symptoms.

A simple example is that some people are able to identify the very early signs of a cold up to 48 hours before the cold takes hold.  Such treatments have a preventative nature to them and are very popular in the Far East and increasingly in the West. Just as we service our car we need to ensure that our bodies are working efficiently and effectively. Such was the belief in preventative treatments in traditional Chinese villages, many villagers would receive preventative treatment for a fixed monthly/ annual cost with any subsequent treatments given free of charge.

In the UK with the National Health Service and over the counter pharmacies, people naturally go and see their GPs at the outset of symptoms.  Because of this free service people tend only go to alternative / complimentary practitioners when they are unsatisfied with the effectiveness of treatments they are receiving.

In the US and other countries where there is no free health care, alternative and complimentary treatments are seen as a cheaper first choice alternative and so they are more popular and more widely accepted and practiced.

There is also an increasing recognition that some alternative treatments are risk / drug free and address the underlying route causes rather than the superficial systems which reoccur and magnify over time. If in doubt then you should consult a practitioner about your specific concerns and he/she will be able to help you.
